Soroptimists channel their efforts into six program areas, including: health, environment, economic development, international goodwill, education, and human rights status of women. Soroptimists worldwide support shelters for abused women and children, rural medical clinics, informational videotapes on issues affecting women, and provide technical training and financial seminars for women.- We are enthusiastic.
Soroptimists share an interest in business as well as concern in working for change. We are people who genuinely enjoy each other’s company and we celebrate our achievements with style.- We think big!
Soroptimists take on large projects because we are doers. Did you know that the Dixon Soroptimists spearheaded the “DHS Athletic Field Lighting Project”, raising funds in excess of $72,000? We helped build the Senior Citizen’s Center, have planted trees, purchased books, musical equipment, basketballs, uniforms, given computers to students and families, annually funded over $10,000 in scholarships, and we continually look for new ways to benefit our community.- We look to the future.
We support the growth and education of young people in our area. Each month we recognize a “Young Woman of the Month” for her outstanding achievement in home, school and community. Annually we present the “Violet Richardson Award”, honoring young women volunteers. Our annual “Making a Difference for Women Recognition” program focuses on the areas of Women Helping Women, Women of Distinction and Advancing the Status of Women.- We look for those who will make a difference.
Several doctoral candidates throughout the region annually are awarded Soroptimist Fellowships that total $40,000 to help fund their graduate level education. Women have been able to return to school and vocational training thanks to our annual “Woman’s Opportunity Award” program.- We need you.
Soroptimists are like you, individuals who care about those around us. We are willing to work together to achieve important changes. Let us help each other to make a difference. Please talk with a Soroptimist member if you are interested in being a part of our Club. You will gain more than you give — we promise!
